IRA Contribution Limits
Understanding your IRA contribution limits and deadlines is one of the simplest ways to make the most of your tax-advantaged savings each year. The information below reflects current IRS guidelines — we recommend confirming with your advisor each year as limits are subject to change.
Traditional & Roth IRA
2024 | 2025 | |
Under age 50 | $7,000 | $7,000 |
Age 50 and older (catch-up) | $8,000 | $8,000 |
Contribution Deadline
April 15 of the following tax year. You have until Tax Day to make a prior-year IRA contribution.
Income Limits — Roth IRA
Filing Status | Phase-Out Range (2025) |
Single / Head of Household | $150,000 – $165,000 |
Married Filing Jointly | $236,000 – $246,000 |
Married Filing Separately | $0 – $10,000 |
Your ability to contribute directly to a Roth IRA phases out at higher income levels.
If your income exceeds the Roth IRA limits, a backdoor Roth conversion may be an option worth exploring with your advisor.
Traditional IRA Deductibility
Contributions to a Traditional IRA are tax-deductible depending on your income and whether you or your spouse are covered by a workplace retirement plan. Your advisor can help determine whether a deductible or non-deductible contribution makes more sense for your situation.
A Note on Deadlines
Contributing early in the year — rather than waiting until the deadline — gives your money more time to grow. Even a few months of additional compounding makes a meaningful difference over time.
